School Furniture to be Shipped to Uganda
International Service – Jacqui Shipe, Service Director
Rotary International is a world wide organization with about 32,000 clubs in most countries of the world. The major push for RI is the eradication of polio…and it’s coming about! Our club supports this international effort through our gifts to the Rotary Foundation.
The Rotary Club of Greater Huntsville also supports education in Uganda. The leader of this effort is Roger Qualls. Roger makes about two trips a year to Uganda with members from our club. This major local effort collects used books, school furniture and supplies from all over North Alabama for shipment to Uganda in Ocean shipping containers. The latest shipment was about 160,000 pounds of books and furniture and arrived in Uganda in June 2015.

Eco Stove Build
Roger Qualls and Ron Brown led club members in building a prototype of a Eco Stove that can be built in Uganda to replace the common “tree-rocks stove” to save scare fire wood. This design is from the Rotary Club of Madison which has funded five hundred of these in Nicaragua. This prototype is a path finder for similar work in Uganda. This first application will be in schools that feed many children each day.
