Vocational Service

In Vocational Service our club seeks to find ways that our members can use their skills and experience in their work life to serve our community. The Rotary Club of Greater Huntsville is currently focused largely on serving children and youth. Vocational Service is working with a high school and a junior high school with robotics clubs after school.

We’ve been working at Jemison High School since 2018 as that club competes in the FIRST Robotic Competition (FRC). That club placed highest of all Huntsville City Schools in the 2019 FRC Regional Competition at the Von Braun Center. Our Rotary club provides technical and fund-raising help to the Jemison Club, the Cyberjagzz. Our in-person support is hundreds of person-hours each year.

In 2021 w e started working with a robotics club that we helped start at McNair Junior High School in 2021. That club is working with the Lego League Challenge. We have three mentors from our Rotary Club that guide the students in building a standard table-top playing field, building Lego mission elements and building and programming Lego robots to complete missions.

We can always use more help with both these programs. A desire to help young people is the only requirement. If you would like more information about these service programs, contract Jim French at jimfrencheng (at) gmail.com or 256 656 4780.
